Bedsteads
As with all furniture its difficult considering what fits into your home, factors like colour and size are important however do you want a contemporary or retro look...possibly something more traditional? We are here to help whatever your choice
At Peter Betteridge we have a wide range of bedsteads in different styles ranging from painted through to solid oak, from children’s beds to a beautiful centrepiece for your bedroom. We even offer a bespoke service on a selection of our manufacturers which means the size of the head or foot end of the bed alongside the colours
When buying a bedstead there are several things to be aware of with regards to construction especially when considering painted furniture. Paint can hide what’s underneath but eventually a poorly painted bed can give rise to knot bleed when the resins in the wood (usually pine) can bleed through leaving a brown pattern of the wood grain in the paint.
Look for a decent centre support: On larger beds like a king size or above its important to have a central support bar that spreads the weight of the mattress and the people on it to the floor and the frame – If there isn’t one you could find yourself on the floor.
Bed wobble: Usually a result of a ‘not-so-sturdy’ construction design or where fittings don’t secure the bed as well as they should. Bed wobble is irritating at best and is not something you need, it usually develops into a creaking sound too.
